Dear Eagle View Elementary Families,
Welcome back and welcome to all our new families. We are so excited to get started and look forward to what a new year of learning will bring.
It has been a busy and fantastic first week. The hustle and bustle of the school has been welcomed and we want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding as we settle into new routines and learning spaces. We continue to follow the BCCDC guidelines and the K-12 Education Recovery Plan documents and look forward to the return of many programs and activities that we have missed over that last few years. We have already started with our Grade 5 Lunch Monitors.
This school year is starting with a slight increase in enrollment with 265 children in 13 divisions. We welcome Mr. Hirst who is our day time custodian, Mrs. Jardim as a teacher in K/1 and Mrs. Beiermeister as our Inclusive Learning teacher. We want to welcome back Mrs. Dann who will be working with our Inclusive Learning/ELL team in the morning and in Division 9 for the afternoon. We also welcome Ms. Byrne and Mr. Maida who have stepped up and shown up for our community to set up two classrooms for our students. We hope to have permanent teachers into those positions by the end of September.
We say farewell to Mrs. Christoff who has accepted a position at Esquimalt High School and to Mrs. Gregory who after 39 years of teaching, has announced her retirement. We wish them both well on their next journeys.
Other Updates:
- Construction will be ongoing this year and we will adjust as the build evolves. We will continue to update the community as needed when major disruptions may occur.
- Thank you for noting the change to our Grades 1-5 line-up routines and meeting staff on the back blacktop. After a couple of days, everyone seems to know where to go and who to meet each day.
- Supervision is provided 15 minutes before school on the back playground only. There is no supervision at the front of the school or on the Kindergarten playground.
- Your child will bring home a package of important forms on Monday, September 12th, however many of the forms are now located on “Parent Connect”. By giving permission online, your child will be able to access several resources. Thank you in advance for checking the online permission, reading, updating and returning the forms to Eagle View by Thursday, September 22nd.
- Throughout the year, please check the website for information/updates about Eagle View https://eagleview.sd61.bc.ca/
- School Times:
- Monday to Friday 8:45 am – 2:37 pm
Thank you for ensuring that your child arrives on time and is collected within 15 minutes of the 2:37 pm dismissal time.
- Attendance: Thank you for calling the school when your child is unable to come. A message may be left 24 hours a day – 744.2701
- On behalf of the PAC, we welcome you to join our enthusiastic parents at monthly meetings. If you are unable to attend these meetings, there are many ways to volunteer … even for an hour or two. This year, PAC meetings will be held the second WEDNESDAY of the month starting at 6:30 pm. The first meeting is Wednesday, September 14.
- Looking after our environment – Eagle View functions on a “Pack In/Pack Out” Lunch system. This means that your child will put everything back into his/her lunch box. We ask that you then teach your children about the importance of recycling by recycling these things at home. Thank you!
- Parking at Eagle View is a challenge and we ask that you not park in the staff parking area. Thank you for walking, cycling or scooting into school and carpooling, it has really made a difference. You may park on Watkiss Way from 8:30 – 9:00 am and 2:20 – 2:50 pm.
- Please be mindful of the cones noting the yellow lines opposite where the bus drops off students. Please do not park in or near the coned area/yellow lines or the bus has a difficult time maneuvering through the space.
- An extra set of clothing is encouraged for all students to have in their backpacks and some teachers may request a set for in the classroom. Outdoor learning, West Coast weather, and accidents are all part of the learning experience and the extra clothes that are familiar will help your child feel comfortable, should they need to change.
- The Terry Fox Run will be on September 16th at 2:00 pm. Students will walk or run around the school grounds for approximately 30 minutes. Parents are welcome to join us. No pets please.
- Meet the Teacher Night, scheduled for September 22nd starting at 5:30 pm!
