Principal’s Message
The first few weeks of 2020 have been exciting at Eagle View Elementary! Many new kindergarten students came to register, classes were coming and going on field trips and we hosted ‘Ready Set Learn’ for our community with 30 pre school children in attendance. Mrs. Coleman, Ms. Moore, Mrs. Wiersma, Mr. Galhon and Mrs. Relf along with a cohort of Grade 5 leadership students, helped plan, organize and run the event. Many activity stations were full of readers, inventors and athletes. Our wonderful PAC president, Santina Spencer, came and provided the PAC’s perspective on our school and brought snacks for both the adults and children. It was tremendous to see the large turn out and to make new connections.
Throughout the month of February, we will be featuring the “Kindness Challenge” which encourages actions that make and create happiness in ourselves and towards others. Special events on February 13, Red/White/Pink day and February 27 Pink Shirt Day Assembly, all support acts of kindness. A reminder that the students will enjoy Valentine’s Day at home as the teachers engage in professional development that day.
On the athletic front, basketball continues for grade 4/5 students with their teacher coaches, Mr. Galhon and Ms. Houldsworth. Swimmers and their coaches, Mrs. Wiersma and Ms. Ottenbreit participated in the “Stand UP and Race Swim Meet” on January 19 which will be followed on Wednesday, February 12 with the Preliminary Swim Meet. Floor Hockey for grade 3 students with Mr. Borich is well under way and continues each Wednesday until Spring Break. We also have a parent, Laura Fanning-Gallant, who comes to do Dance on Monday’s and Thursday’s with our grade 3, 4 and 5 students at lunchtime. Many thanks also to the parents that come to help with Fun Lunch day, read with students and share their expertise in the classroom.
Mr. Galhon and Mrs. Relf
