Administrator’s Message
Welcome October!
Although Fall seemed to come early, the students have enjoyed a month of being together, learning and playing both in and outside of the classroom. This year our school goal is focusing on becoming better writers! As you partner with us in your child’s education, please consider having them write out the grocery list, a letter to a distant friend, the To Do list or a wish list, or anything that encourages, promotes and gives purpose to the written word. We thank you in advance for your help encouraging young writers.
We are happy to welcome back Ms. Katelyn Neily. She will be teaching grade 1/2, in division 8, with Mrs. Dann. We also welcome Mr. Jared Crossley (EAG), Ms. Jade Orellana (EAG), who is filling in for Mr. Ferris until the end of October and Ms. Athira Sethunath (EAG), who is filling in for Mrs. Lila Gardner until the end of November. We are excited to have them as part of our Eagle View team.
Mrs. Castellanos and Mrs. Jardim are leading the cross-country running at recess on Tuesday and Thursday for grades 3-5. They had their first meet this past Tuesday. It is great to see so many out running and enjoying the fresh air! Go Eagle View!
As “safety doesn’t take a vacation”, we appreciate your help by not parking on red or yellow lines. If you have to leave your vehicle, please park in a parking spot or safely on the side of the road and walk in. We have a morning bus and 2 afterschool busses that come each day and parking in undesignated places makes it difficult for them to arrive and leave safely. Also, new zebra lines have been installed at the back gate. Please honour the NO Parking sign on the gate as it is not a drop off area. Thank you to the many parents that walk in from offsite, it really makes a difference to the congestion at drop off and pick up times. We look forward to the final report out from the Capital Regional District’s Ready, Step, Roll Program at our PAC meeting next Wednesday.
Inline with keeping everyone safe at school, please review the new cell phone policies from the Ministry of Education. They can be found on our school website under our Code of Conduct. Please note that personal digital devices should always be stored out of sight and on silent or airplane mode, including at recess and lunch. The use of digital devices outside of instructional hours is not permitted on school grounds, field trips and other school activities without the individual’s consent. If you have any questions, please check with your classroom teacher or the office.
As a reminder, please send your child to school with their own, labelled water bottles every day along with a change of clothes and indoor shoes that can remain at school. With the rainy season around the corner, rain jackets and rubber boots are highly recommended for our muddy forest and outdoor play and learning areas.
We are so grateful for everyone who took the time to connect with their child’s teacher(s) at parent teacher interviews this week. If you were unable to attend we look forward to meeting with you at a later date. A big thank you to all the teachers for their time and energies toward these meaningful conversations. It takes a team to lead your child(ren) through their educational journey and we are thankful to be a part of an amazing community of dedicated professionals and families.
We hope that everyone found time to reflect and learn on Truth and Reconciliation day this past Monday, and are looking forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.
Mrs. Relf, Principal & Mrs. Dann, Acting Vice Principal
