Dear Eagle View Families,
Although May has arrived with a few showers and cooler weather, students are enjoying more outdoor learning time! Most classes are now outfitted with a wagon and mats, making the classrooms more portable than ever! Trips to the neighbourhood forest or park areas that border on our schoolyard are becoming more common areas to do math and reading activities along with discovering and developing a curiosity of the environment in which we live.
Recently, we were fortunate to have the Safe Cycling Program for our grade 4 and 5 students. The township of View Royal applied for a grant and then working with the Greater Victoria Bike to Work Society, Hub Cycling and the Province of British Columbia, brought this program to Eagle View. The aim was to encourage students to ride to and from school as part of their everyday routine, to exercise and have fun while keeping safety at the forefront. It would be great to see more and more bikes and less and less cars in our parking lot.
As this year continues to be different and unusual, ours student-led conferences took on a different shape. The students were proud and excited to share school life with the adults at home. We hope you had the opportunity to enjoy their learning and successes with them. This is one way to validate that what your child does at school has meaning and purpose. This time of year also allows the students to reflect on where they started, how far they have come and to set goals for the future.
Next week will be our Welcome to Kindergarten event for students who will be coming to school for the very first time! This is such an exciting time as the new students and their families meet the PAC, community service friends, the school support team and their teachers. We are ready for this ‘Drive-Thru’ event and can’t wait to meet them all on Friday May 14th starting at 9:30.
Thank you again for continuing to be mindful and COVID safe as you pick up and drop off your children. Students, parents and staff are grateful as this has improved the number of people on the school ground, making it easier to navigate pathways home and helping those who are somewhat anxious about crowds, feel safe. Also, if you wish to use the playground, you and your bubble are welcome back after 3:30.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the great outdoors,
Mr. Galhon and Mrs. Relf
