Administrator’s Message
Dear Eagle View Families,
We hope you are being kind, being calm, and staying safe (as Dr. Henry says) as we move in to a new month. The longer evenings, the warmer temperatures and the welcome rain is telling us that we are in full swing spring!
Although the opportunities for education look different in every home, we are amazed at the variety of projects, activities and learning that are happening throughout the week. We have enjoyed the smiles, the waves and the energy from both parents and students on zoom or as they peddle by the office window. We continue to miss the happy sounds of students in our hallways.
Our staff is working hard to keep the connection alive, some coming into the school to organize material, the many emails back and forth to families and phone chats. We enjoy hearing the teachers excitement as they hear from your home. Your well being is important to all of us. A special thank you to Ms. Houldsworth for arranging a zoom dance on Wednesday. There were about 55 zoomers and we hope to increase that number next Wednesday. Also to Ms. Ottenbreit who pops into the online classes and has reported on the new skills students are acquiring in their new learning environments. We are looking forward to seeing pictures of beaver hats and cartoons of frogs and we hope to add pictures to our next newsletter, stay tuned!
Across Canada, May is the month to celebrate all things musical. In fact, Music Monday – May 4 – is a day when over 6.3 million musicians, students, parents and community members come together to play musical instruments, sing, dance and experience the joys of music. Take time on Monday to enjoy music anywhere and everywhere.
As students progress through elementary, middle and secondary schools in the Greater Victoria School District, they have many opportunities for musical involvement. Grade five students may want to consider a band instrument to learn next year or check out their middle school to see the musical opportunities that await. On another note…Island Ukulele, a school district music program, starts with kindergarten students all the way through to grade 12.
May is usually the month we begin our official welcome of new students to Eagle View for the 2020/2021 school year. Next week we are looking at how this will look for us in these unusual circumstances and then reach out to our new kindergarten families soon. Stay tuned.
As always, please do not hesitate to call us if you have questions or need help with resources. We are at the school each day.
Sincerely,
Mr. Galhon and Mrs. Relf
