Principal’s Message
Dear Eagle View Families,
At Eagle View and across Canada, May is the month to celebrate all things musical. In fact, Music Monday – May 6 – is a day when over 6.3 million musicians, students, parents and community members come together to play musical instruments, sing, dance and experience the joys of music. Have you ever wondered how music benefits your child? Check out this article if you are interested in learning how music boosts language and math skills, fine tunes listening skills, promotes creativity, relieves stress and establishes neural pathways for learning!

As students progress through elementary, middle and secondary schools in the Greater Victoria School District, they have many opportunities for musical involvement. At Eagle View this year, we decided to give this an extra focus. Grade 2 students participated in a Victoria Symphony concert. Eagle View students sang in class, primary or intermediate choirs; they honed their singing skills, expanded their repertoires, increased their focus with extra practice time and opened their performance opportunities singing at school and community venues; a highlight was the Eagle View Intermediate Choir performance at “Victoria Sings.” Also, students were and continue to be exposed to the music of developing and professional musicians:
- Andy the Musical Scientist performed in the fall;
- “Cadence,” a nationally recognized vocal group, perform Wednesday, May 8 9:00 am
- Titan Music (LFMS School, Langley) Band and Vocal group perform Monday, May 13 1:15 pm Colquitz Middle School Band perform Monday, June 10 8:45 am
We invite you, too, to join in the musical fun. Please feel free to attend any of these upcoming mini-concerts but, specifically, consider joining us for our “Music Monday Assembly” – Monday, May 6 at 10:40 . Divisions 4 (Mrs. Rimek), 6 (Mrs. Christoff), 8 (Mr. Borich) along with all grade 4 and 5 students in the Intermediate Choir will all be performing!
May is also the month we begin our official welcome of new students to Eagle View for the 2019/20 school year: our new 4 and 5 years olds will join us, along with their parents, for an afternoon session at Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, May 10. New K Families have received an invitation to attend one of two sessions. As new students come in, we also provide a successful transition for those students leaving Eagle View. Grade 5 students participate in an Orientation afternoon on Thursday, May 16. Students going to our family school, Colquitz, will go by bus from Eagle View. Parents of grade 5 students going to middle schools other than Colquitz, should make personal arrangements. Please contact the school if you have any questions about transition!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lois Bender
