Dear Eagle View Families,
As we find ourselves in March and with Spring Break around the corner, we ask ourselves where did the time go! Taking a moment to pause and reflect is what good learners do and that is exactly where we find ourselves. We hear students reading in the hallways, classrooms, library and even the office! They are practicing and improving their decoding and comprehension of text each day and it is a joy to observe. We see students writing more fluently, using juicy words, and exciting action descriptors to clearly paint a picture in the readers mind. These are exciting times and parents will soon have evidence of their child’s growth with report cards being released (online through Parent Connect) on March17th! Happy reading!
We are grateful to our PAC for financially supporting another ArtStarts Performance “1002 Nights by Izad Etemadi” with the Story Theatre Company. They are a local, non-profit society that create theatre productions for young people in BC. They use narrative storytelling and improvisation to encourage enthusiasm for one’s own literacy and storytelling abilities. This was a great fit for us at Eagle View as we continue to work on our goals in literacy.
Among the many field trips that are coming up, we have an author visit on March 15th and a special activity is planned for March 17th by our student leadership team. Thank you Mrs. Restell for planning these and to Mrs. Wiersma who helps her with Student Leadership! Our fantastic staff have organized many events and activities for our students this term: Miss Johnston organized and led the Robbie Burns day assembly, Ms. Dong and Div. 4 ran Chinese New Year stations, and we thank both of them for hosting the board game club; Mr. Nast has been hosting grade 4 and 5 lunchtime basketball, Mr. Borich and Mr. Ferris host lunchtime Floor Hockey for our grades 2 and 3, Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Smith host the Drawing club, and Mr. Rutherford and his class help out with our playground equipment each day. We also have wonderful outdoor supervisors, providing encouragement, problem solving strategies, bandaids and even ice. We are so grateful for the team here at Eagle and that includes YOU, the parents!
We want to wish you and your family a safe, FUN and Happy Spring Break!
