Principal’s Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

What a month of fun we’ve had at Eagle View! May has been jam packed with learning both inside the classroom and out . Field trips have been popular for many divisions. Presenters shared information about special topics – Science Venture brought out their microscopes and investigative procedures. Constable Pamela Scheidl, our police liaison officer, conducted a series of DARE presentations, Fran and Mark Perkins shared stories and information about the Metis culture and Louise Milburn prepared our students to sing aboriginal songs and play drums for our Music Monday assembly. Speakers from the Island Sexual Health Society led Maturation lessons with grade 4 and 5 groups.

Certainly, a highlight was the Hawaiian Spring Fair; read all about it in the article on page 5 written by Student Principal, Annie and Student Vice Principal, Charlie!

And, of course, the running continued as we moved from Spring Cross Country to Track. May 29 was the highlight with over 60 Eagle View participants from grades 3, 4, and 5 running in a number of events: 100 meter; 800 meter; relay. The enthusiasm was high as students darted around the track at the University of Victoria. Many students gave the extra burst of energy to place first, second or third. Eagle View was also well represented at the City Finals this past Thursday. Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who supported this event by acting as supervisors or cheering in the stands. An especially big thank you goes to Ms. Houldsworth who was the mastermind behind all of the coaching and organization! Thank you as well to Mr. Nast for timing runners during practices.

As the year comes to a close, we must say farewell to not only our leaving grade 5 students but also several staff members whose assignments for the upcoming year have yet to be finalized. Thank you to Ms. Rockwell who left in April when Ms. Pollitt returned from a leave. Mr. Pagnotta inspired our grade 1 children for many months before moving on earlier this spring. At the end of June, Mrs. Rimek, Mrs. Esselink and Ms. Williamson will be considering the many positions posted throughout our school district. A large thank you to all of these people who have embraced teaching and learning in such a professional manner.

Finally, thank you to all of our staff for their continued commitment and dedication to our Eagle View School culture. To thank our families, we invite parents and/or grandparents to stop for a coffee and a treat at the “Thank You Café” which will be set up outside the school between 7:30 and 8:454 am on Wednesday, June 20.

Best regards,

Ms. Lois Bender,

Principal
