The first month of 2017 is behind us. It sure passed by quickly! Ready, Set, Learn and Kindergarten registration were two big events completed in January.
Thank you to our Student Leaders, Ms. Rossato, Mrs. Rimek, Mrs. MacDonald, and Mrs. Wiersma for helping make Ready, Set, Learn another successful event. We had a great afternoon hosting our ‘up and coming’ students. As usual, the Leadership students & RSL Team did a fabulous job hosting our three and four year old visitors. It was great having Rebecca Langley in attendance as PAC representation.
The provincial Foundational Skills Assessment (FSA) was administered to our grade 4 students in January which is a provincial snapshot of reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Grade 5 Basketball practices resumed in January and are every Monday & Wednesday at lunch recess. Ms. Houldsworth and I are coaching the kids in preparation for the Jamboree on Thursday, February 23 at Spectrum Community High School.
Also, House Games resumed for the grade 3, 4 & 5 students and continue through to the spring. Mrs. MacDonald started a Knitting Club on Tuesday and Thursday at lunch recess in the Library.
On Tuesday, January 24 our Eagle View swim team participated in a swim-a-thon. As a group, 22 swimmers swam 710 laps (17.75 km) in 45 minutes. Way to go swimmers! You did an amazing job. On Saturday, January 21, they swam in their first meet of the year. This was an opportunity for swimmers to see what an actual swim meet is like and also prepare for the upcoming preliminary meet on Monday, February 20. Thank you to Mrs. Wiersma, Mrs. Legere & Mrs. Callander for sponsoring our swim team.
The plant signage was also installed in the growth areas within the Naturescape identifying indigenous plant species which we want to be aware of and respect.
