Principal’s Message
Dear Eagle View Families,
Students and staff at Eagle View have clearly settled into the routines and excitement of academic learning! Check out some of the work displayed on bulletin boards. In the classrooms, the students engage in lots of reading and busily tackle mathematical ideas and challenges. As well, children have re-established old connections, made new friends and are busy practicing responsible and respectful behavior!
School, of course, should be fun, too! For those who celebrate Halloween, this is a time of imagination … spooky stories, fantastical creatures and creative play. As you know, we zipped up the enthusiasm this year with Black and Orange Day. Later in the newsletter, you will see some examples of the “weird and wonderful” ideas some children and staff had.
Physical movement and athleticism has always played a strong role at Eagle View. All children receive a weekly physical education program that focuses on skills specific to our curriculum. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 also have the chance to increase fitness and practice good sportsmanship through extra activities. Our Fall Cross Country Season ended with the grand finale at Beacon Hill Park on October 22. The word “exhilarating” describes the feeling of watching Eagle View students run down the hill towards the finish line! October 30, our soccer players wound the season up with a soccer tournament involving several schools. Next week, again for grades 3, 4 and 5, we will be offering noon hour house games in the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also, for any grade … if your child swims 25 meters, he/she is welcome to join Swim Club starting Tuesday, November 6.
Music, art and other forms of the fine arts feed and inspire the “heart” of our young students. EVE staff are excited to extend and refine the opportunities students have in these areas, too. Some examples include:
– Andrea Fritz, an aboriginal artist, presented in every division. She shared traditional stories/myths, discussed shapes common to traditional art and engaged the children in art activities around shape drawings and print making.
– Primary and Intermediate Choirs are up and singing. The first performance was at our Harvest Assembly. More to come at the Remembrance Day Assembly and then December’s Winter Concert.
– Story Theatre presents “Bluebeads and Blueberries” for all on Tuesday, November 6 at 12:45. Adult family members are welcome to join us.
Finally a reminder that we welcome everyone to our Remembrance Day Assembly, scheduled for Friday, November 9 at 10:45. If your child belongs to Guides/Scouts/Brownies/Cubs and would like to wear a uniform that day, he/she is welcome to do so.
Sincerely,
Lois Bender,
Principal
