Welcome October!
September brought us a lovely extended summer and as we head into October the weather has started to cool off. Students have enjoyed a month of being together, learning and playing both in and outside of the classroom. Our school goal is focused on developing student reading and writing skills. As a school community we are learning that when we read, we can make connections between texts and ourselves, other books, the world around us and different types of media entertainment. As you partner with us in your child’s education, please consider reading with them every night, ask them how they think they connect to what you’re reading together, have them write out the grocery list, a letter to a distant friend, the To Do list or a wish list, or anything that encourages, promotes and gives purpose to the written word. We thank you in advance for your help encouraging young writers.
We welcome some new faces and some familiar ones as well. Welcome to Mrs. Andrea Howe who will be teaching PE until the end of December, Ms. Breanne Woogman who will be one of our ILT and ELL teachers until the end of the year and we welcome back Mr. Thomas Webb, teaching Grade 1/2 and Mr. Tim Malm, teaching Grade 4/5 until the end of December. We also welcome Ms. Gena Lucas (EAG), who is filling in for Ms. Roberts until the end of May. We are excited to have them as part of our Eagle View team.
Mrs. Castellanos, Mrs. Jardim and Mrs. Johnston are leading the cross-country running at recess on Tuesday and Thursday for grades 3-5. They had their first meet this past Monday. It is great to see so many out running and enjoying the fresh air! They are working their way towards the Final meet on October, 28th! Go Team Eagle View!
As a reminder, please send your child to school with their own, labelled water bottles every day along with a change of clothes and indoor shoes that can remain at school. With the rainy season around the corner, rain jackets and rubber boots are highly recommended for our muddy forest and outdoor play and learning areas.
We look forward to seeing all our families at Parent/Teacher conferences next week. If you were unable to attend we look forward to meeting with you at a later date. It takes a team to lead your child(ren) through their educational journey and we are thankful to be a part of an amazing community of dedicated professionals and families.
A big thank you to those parents who informed us that the flashing light at the crosswalk near Kami Court was not working. We were able to provide a temporary solution until the repair was complete. Thank you to the Township of View Royal for completing this repair faster than they had anticipated it to be. We are certainly grateful for the teamwork.
We hope that everyone found time to reflect and learn on Truth and Reconciliation day , and are looking forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.
Mrs. Relf, Principal & Mrs. Chase, Vice Principal
