April 2023 Newsletter

April 12, 2023

Administrator’s Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Spring Break and that you are looking forward to the four day weekend that starts today!  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and warm up a little and the sunshine will show up too. We are starting to see the fawn lilies pop up in our forest and buds appearing on the trees and bushes. Students have been talking about invasive species and healthy fir trees, roots that need nurturing and mulch to cover the forest floor, all demonstrating the learnings of outdoor stewardship. We have been fortunate to have been the recipient of some workshops from our community partners in the Town of View Royal.

Inside the school we have been fortunate to have many adult learners working alongside our great staff and with our outstanding students. The time has come to say goodbye to a few practicum students: Alyssa VanStone and Molly Cunningham completed their final teaching practicum and Yuki Sasaki her final EA practicum. We wish them well and are feeling proud to have been a part of their learning journey into a career in education.

While we have some goodbyes, we also have some hellos—as we have more new faces enter our building. Nathan Cetinski is our new nighttime custodian and Julie Morris is an EA, both who started with us before March Break. More practicum students begin in April: Christille Ramos who will be shadowing our EA’s; Alexis Larsen who will be working with Mrs. Castellanos; Lauren Crisp who will be with Mrs. Moore; and Kylie Kruhlak who will be alongside Mrs. Coleman. Welcome to Eagle View!

Thank you PAC for the Easter Egg hunts today. There were so many smiles, cheers of excitement and lots of fast feet going in many directions that gave our students wonderful memories as we head into the long weekend.

As the weather improves, we are seeing more bikes and scooters coming to school. We love that our community is participating in active transportation. Look for new signs coming to our school soon! These will help cyclists to remember to dismount and walk their bikes while on the school grounds. Keeping everyone safe is always a priority.

The trees on the field are in the process of being moved. This will allow for a track to be put on our field as we prepare for the track meet up at UVic at the end of May. We want to thank students who have helped spread the woodchips and mulch into our forests. We will continue to do so until the pile is depleted.

Thank you for sending us your best children every day! The students have returned from break ready to learn and have settled back into routines smoothly. It has been a wonderful return to school and we are excited to see what Term 3 brings us here at Eagle View!
